In this lesson, we’re going to walk through setting up short links.
The first thing we’re going to do is head to the Marketing tab, then click on Short Links. Here, we’re going to add commonly used links that your business may use.
Common links off the top of my head that our clients add — and that may be applicable to you depending on your business — include:
- A link to your website
- Social media accounts
- Your podcast
- A link to an upcoming event you want people to register for
- Presentation links like slideshows you want to share
- A link to purchase a book you’ve written
- A link to a branding video about you and your business
- A link to download your mobile app from the App Store
- A link to donate to a cause you’re raising awareness for
- A link to send to job applicants interested in working for your company
- General forms you want people to fill out
- A link to schedule time on your calendar
- And last but not least, affiliate links provided to you by other companies — such as your Chatavise affiliate link
By the way, we share revenue with you for each of your referrals that opens a Chatavise account. To learn more about that, text me REFERRAL to:
(470) 375-9088
Now, adding the links to Chatavise makes them really easy to access when sending one-on-one texts, like I’m going to demonstrate here.
I already have the sentence written to save some time. If I press Shift + 3, it will pull up this Insert Message Variable box. Under Categories, click on Link, and now you can see all the short links that you have in your account. You can search for the one you want, and then hit Send.
Just like that, I was able to access my short link and send it to someone.
The other thing that makes short links easy to use is when you’re sending out a mass text campaign.
If I go over here, you’ll see I have 688 people as recipients in this campaign. I already have the message typed out to save some time. Again, pressing Shift + 3 brings up that message variable box. Click on Categories, then click on Links, and you’ll be able to find the link you want.
If I were to click on Run Campaign, it would send that text message out to 688 people.
This also provides you with valuable insights.
If you’ve ever used Bit.ly or TinyURL — which are URL shorteners that show you how many times a link was clicked on — Chatavise’s link wrapper does the same thing, but with three added benefits:
- When you text someone the link, we can actually tell you:
- If that contact clicked on it
- When they clicked on it
- And how many times they clicked on it
- We track these insights for both one-on-one texts and campaigns.
- Bit-ly and TinyURL links can sometimes prevent your texts from being received because some carriers flag those URLs as high risk — due to the volume of spam and crypto scams that use them. Chatavise short links are less likely to get blocked because your business went through carrier registration during onboarding.
So now that you know the benefits of using Chatavise to wrap your links, let’s take a second to pause the video and gather one link to wrap together.
At the top right of the Links page, you’ll see a “New Link” button — go ahead and click it.
Then, let’s label the link that we want to shorten.
The next field is the External Link field. Here, we’ll copy and paste the URL that belongs to this link. Best practice: open another tab, pull up the website, and copy and paste the full link — make sure to include the HTTPS.
Next, Chatavise gives you the option for a Vanity Slug. This allows you to customize how the short link appears. For example, I’ll put:
affiliate-link
If I click Add Link and it doesn’t go through, it’s because someone else is already using that vanity slug. In that case, just add some numbers or make it unique. Now it will go through.
After you hit Add Link, you’ll be brought to this screen. With Chatavise, you can edit links as well. Go to the far right and click the pencil icon — here you can re-label the link or update the underlying URL.
Now that we’ve done this, take a few minutes to add a few more of your important links. These will come in handy in other sections of the course.
On the screen are the examples I shared earlier.
And just like that, you now have a few short links set up in your Chatavise account.
I’ll see you in the next lesson!
In this lesson, we’re going to walk through setting up short links. The first thing we’re going to do is head to the Marketing tab, then click on Short Links. - a link to send someone who’s interested in applying for a job within your company
- general forms that you may want people to fill out
- a link to schedule time on your calendar
- and last but not least, affiliate links that other companies provide you with, such as your Chatavise affiliate link
By the way, we share revenue with you for each of your referrals that opens up a Chatavise account. To learn more about that, text me “referral” to my number:

Now, adding the links to Chatavise makes it really easy to access when sending one-on-one texts, like I’m going to demonstrate here. I already had the sentence made to save some time. If I do Shift + 3, it’ll pull up this Insert Message Variable box. In the categories, click on Link, and now you can see all the short links that you have in your account. This also provides you with valuable insights. If you’ve ever used Bitly or TinyURL, which are URL shorteners that tell you how many times a link was clicked on, wrapping your links with Chatavise will do the same thing—but with three added benefits:
- When you text someone the link, we can actually tell you if that contact clicked on it.
- When they clicked on it.
- And how many times they clicked on it.
We can tell you this information for both one-on-one text messages and when sending campaigns.
There’s also one more benefit that is worth mentioning. Bit.ly and TinyURL links do prevent some text messages from being received because some carriers associate those URL shorteners as high-risk. Think about the amount of crypto scams that use Bit.ly as an example. When you use your Chatavise URL wrapper, the likelihood of this happening is far less because companies that are wrapping their links with Chatavise went through the carrier registration process during onboarding.
So now that you know the benefits of using Chatavise to wrap your links, let’s take a second to pause this video and gather one link and wrap that link together. On the top right of the Links page, you’ll see a “New Link” button. Let’s go ahead and click it. Then let’s label the link that we want to shorten.
The next field is the External Link field. Here, we’ll copy and paste the URL that belongs to this link. Best practice is to open up another tab, pull up the website, and copy and paste that link there so that we make sure to include the https part.
Then Chatavise gives you another option called a vanity slug, which basically allows you to change the baseline—the way the baseline link looks. So I’m going to go ahead and put “affiliate-link.” Now, if I was to click on “Add Link” and it didn’t go through, it’s because someone else is already using that vanity slug. So we can add some numbers behind it, like so, and now it will go through.
After you hit “Add Link,” you’ll be brought to this screen. Here with Chatavise, you can actually edit the links as well. So if you go to the far right and click on the pencil button, you can relabel that link or change the underlying link that belongs to that shortener.
Now that we’ve done this, take a few minutes to add a few more of your important links, as this will come in handy in other sections of the course. On the screen are the examples I shared earlier, and just like that, you now have a few short links set up in your Chatavise account.
