Uploading Contacts to Chatavise
In this lesson, we’ll walk through the two options available for manually uploading contacts to Chatavise. This lesson is crucial because it’s important to upload contacts who’ve given consent to receive promotional texts differently from those who have not. Let’s get started!
Uploading Contacts Who Have Given Consent for Promotional Texts
If you have a list of contacts who have explicitly given you consent to receive promotional text messages, follow this process to upload them to Chatavise.
Important Reminder:
It’s crucial that you have proof that these contacts have given you consent. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) imposes penalties and fines ranging from $500 to $1,500 per violation. To learn more, you can Google it, visit the official FCC website, or check out the link provided on the screen.
Chatavise offers easy-to-use tools to help you build a compliant text marketing subscriber list. Use these tools to grow your list the right way.
Now, let’s dive into the system and see how to upload these FCC-compliant contacts:
- Navigate to the Marketing Page Go to the top of the screen and click on Marketing, then select Subscribers.
- Upload Your Subscriber List At the top right, click the Upload Subscribers button. From here, click on the button to upload your CSV file. Select the file you want to upload, and you’ll see a preview of the data mapped to the correct fields.
- Review the Contact List In the third step, you’ll see a preview of your contacts. This is a chance to double-check that the information is in the correct columns.
- Consent Confirmation In the fifth step, you’ll need to confirm that you have prior approval to send promotional text messages to these contacts. Once confirmed, click Upload.
And just like that, you’ve uploaded contacts who have given you permission for promotional text messaging!
Uploading Regular Contacts (No Promotional Consent)
If you’re uploading regular contacts who have not given consent for promotional text messages, follow this process. These could be contacts you’ve done business with in the past or contacts from an old CRM. It doesn’t matter where they come from, as long as you’re not sending them promotional campaign texts.
Note:
You can send one-on-one text messages and transactional campaign text messages to these contacts. However, make sure that any transactional text campaign is genuinely non-promotional in nature. Even when sending out a transactional text campaign, you must confirm that the text message is not promotional.
Now, let’s walk through the steps to upload regular contacts:
- Navigate to the CRM Contacts Page Go to the top of the screen and click on CRM, then select Contacts.
- Add New Contacts At the top right, click the blue Add Contact button. With the Upload tab selected, upload your CSV file.
- Map and Validate Fields Map the fields accordingly, validate that the information looks correct, and even assign tags to this uploaded contact list. Once you’re done, click Next.
- Upload Your Contacts After confirming everything looks good, click Upload to add the contacts to Chatavise.
Key Takeaways
As you can see, uploading contacts to Chatavise is straightforward. The most important decision you’ll need to make is whether the contacts you’re uploading are:
- Promotional subscribers (those who have given consent to receive promotional messages at scale)
- Regular contacts (who have not given consent for promotional messages but can receive one-on-one or transactional messages)
Once you’ve made that distinction, uploading your contacts is simple!
In the next lesson, we’ll dive into text campaigns. See you there!
In this lesson, we will walk through the two options we have to manually upload contacts to Chatavise. This lesson is very important as you will need to upload contacts that have given you consent to receive promotional texts differently than uploading contacts who did not give you consent. So, let’s get started.
If you have a list of contacts who have given you their consent to send promotional text messages, then follow this process to upload them to Chatavise. Remember, it’s very, very important that you have proof that the phone number from that contact gave you consent. Penalties and fines can range from $500 to $1,500 per violation and are imposed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). If you want to learn more about this, you can Google it, visit the official FCC government website, or check out the link I have on the screen. Remember, Chatavise has easy-to-use tools to help build up your text marketing subscriber list. Use those tools to grow your list the compliant way.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s go into the system and see how to upload these FCC-compliant contacts. Go to the top and click on Marketing, then Subscribers. At the top right, click the Upload Subscribers button. Here, you can click on this button to upload the CSV file, select the file you want to upload, and you’ll see a preview of the information mapped to the correct fields. On the third step, you’ll see the list of contacts in a preview format just to double-check that they’re in the right columns. Skip over to the fifth step, and you’ll have to give your consent that you got prior approval that these contacts are okay with receiving promotional text messages from your business. Then click Upload. And just like that, you now know how to upload contacts who have given you their permission for promotional text messaging.
Now, this is the process you’re going to want to follow if you are looking to upload regular contacts who did not give you consent to receive promotional texts. These can be contacts that you’ve done business with in the past or contacts from an old CRM. It doesn’t really matter where they come from, as long as you aren’t sending them promotional campaign text messages. You can send them one-on-one text messages and you can send them transactional campaign text messages. Now, we understand the gray area that cleverly worded text messages can skirt the line with, but keep in mind you will have to consent that the text message you are sending is not promotional in nature, even when sending out a transactional text campaign. With that said, let’s upload some regular contacts to Chatavise. To do this, go to the top of the screen and click on CRM, then click on Contacts. At the top right, click this blue button over here to add our contacts. With the Upload tab selected, you will upload a CSV file here. Then, you will map the fields accordingly, validate that the information looks right, and you can even assign tags to this uploaded contact list. Hit Next when you’re done, and you’ll be able to upload your contacts to Chatavise.
In this lesson, as you can see, it’s really easy to upload contacts. The most important part is determining: Are the contacts you are uploading subscribers who gave you consent to receive promotional text messages at scale, or are they regular contacts? Once you make that determination, it’s pretty simple from there. In the next lesson, we’ll be discussing text campaigns. I’ll see you there.
